Seeking the Creative: Kennedy, Crochet Artist
How would you describe your art in three words?
Whimsical, soft-girl, cottage core.
From cloud-covered cardigans and cherry-shaped ear muffs, to egg-inspired bikini sets and strawberry purses – crochet artist Kennedy’s designs burst forth from the screen with dreamlike fancifulness. Drawing on inspiration from nature, 21-year-old Kennedy began sharing her designs with the online world this past January. She highlights her work on multiple platforms, curating a colorful Instagram feed, filming YouTube tutorials, and posting vibrant TikTok videos showcasing both her work and her broader interest in textiles. Though Kennedy initially picked up crocheting during the pandemic as a hobby, she has since found herself hoping to open a shop and building a crafting community through her social media.
Where/how do you gather inspiration?
I’m really inspired by the creativity of other crafters. Seeing their projects motivates me to create works of my own! My work is also inspired by the things that bring me joy and I love being able to bring silly things into the world like cherry earmuffs and strawberry purses.
What do you hope audiences retain from your work?
I hope that seeing my projects brings some joy to my audiences and inspires them to create as well!
